There are several commonly-used methods to build a replica costume.  The two most often seen in cosplay are EVA foam and Pepakura/Resin/Bondo.  Both of those are covered in more detail within their respective sections.  Another method, less used but equally viable, is styrene.

What are the differences?Edit

In the end, any differences between building methods come down to the builder themselves.  Both methods are equally capable of producing near-perfect replicas, though the properties of each will be different.  In general...

  • Heavier
  • Rigid
  • More costly to produce
  • Easier to add fine details

  • Lighter
  • Flexible
  • Faster to produce
  • Less expensive
  • More difficult to achieve a higher level of detail

Which method is best for me?Edit

This is entirely up to the builder.  With both methods having pros and cons, it is up to each person to decide which route is best for them.  Reading each section can provide more extensive details that may aid in making this decision.
